'The Auditor General scrutinises the public sector to see there has not been waste of taxpayers' resources and that government agencies deliver services in an equitable, efficient and effective manner to the benefit of all Western Australians.'

Office of the Auditor General for Western Australia
Annual Report for 2003-2004

This Report describes the functions and operations of the Office of the Auditor General and presents the audited financial statements and performance indicators for the Office for the year ended June 30, 2004. It is not a report on the results of audits conducted, as this information is tabled in Parliament separately.

When reading this Report readers should be aware that the OUTCOME we seek is an informed Parliament on public sector accountability and performance.

This OUTCOME is achieved through our OUTPUT of Performance Auditing.

Performance Auditing comprises:

  • Financial Attest Audits
  • Performance Indicator Audits
  • Controls and Compliance Examinations
  • Performance Examinations

These audits and examinations result in Reports to Parliament that identify Matters of Significance which ultimately generates our desired OUTCOME.
