Reports on examinations and investigations are built on
a foundation of rigorous analysis and provide a balanced and independent
assessment of relevant audit issues. Agencies are advised of the commencement
of the project and are kept informed of emerging findings. They have an
opportunity to provide comment on a summary of findings for inclusion
in the report to Parliament. The ongoing challenge for the Office is to
balance timeliness of reporting against the exacting standards set by
the Auditor General. More details about the process are provided in the

Examines attraction, retention and achievements in VET and addresses:
- the trends in attraction, retention and achievement in VET
- how are DET and colleges responding to these trends
The examination involves the Department of Education and Training and the Technical and Further Education Colleges. |

Incidents and Complaints Management at Shared Services
Examines how the three main shared services organisations are managing service incidents and complaints from client agencies and service providers. Key areas include:
- do the shared services have adequate systems and processes for dealing with incidents and complaints
- how shared services are responding to incidents and complaints – especially improving service delivery
- what trends are there in the number and types of complaints
The examination includes the Office of Shared Services; the Health Corporate Network; and the Education and Training Shared Services Centre.

Contract Management with Not-For-Profit Organisations providing health services
This examines how the Department of Health manages health service contracts which it outsources to Not-For-Profit Organisations (NFPOs), including:
- whether funding to NFPOs is provided as a consequence of appropriate and transparent planning, award and review processes
- whether funding arrangements are being effectively monitored and managed
- initiatives to help NFPO’s enhance their corporate governance skills
- how high risk NFPOs are managed
The examination looks at seven areas of activity within the Department of Health.

Treatment of Traffic Infringements by Public Sector Agencies
This examines the controls and compliance activities of agencies to ensure appropriate management of traffic infringements for fleet vehicles driven by public sector Officers.
The examination involves WAPS and ten other public sector agencies. |

Managing Land under the Metropolitan Region Scheme
Land use and property development in Perth are controlled under the Metropolitan Region Scheme (MRS). Under the scheme, land can be reserved and rezoned. This may result in compulsory acquisition or in the case of rezoning, specific development conditions being imposed. The Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) has the responsibility for keeping the MRS under review and to amend it to reflect the land planning needs of the region. |

Management of databases containing confidential information
Numerous government databases contain confidential information (private or commercial in confidence). The information in these databases must be managed to ensure that only those with the "need to know" have access to this information. This examines the compliance of a selection of agencies with the requirements for GST and FBT. |

Boards and Committees
The focus of this preliminary examination is to gather information on two questions:
- Are government boards and committees well run?
- Have government initiated changes achieved their expected outcomes in relation to the functioning of government boards and committees?
It will consider the number and types of government boards and committees, their roles, and available information on their governance and transparency. It will also assess information on the impact on boards and committees of government initiated changes such as machinery of government reforms. |
